Cairo – 20 September 2017: Egyptian President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi gave a speech at the U.N. Security Council’s Peacekeeping session, where he sent four messages on developing the peacekeeping process.

He said that the United Nations should not undertake roles instead of the governments, adding that trusteeship should not be applied on governments in areas of conflict, in a tweet on Wednesday.

He also tweeted that the main responsibility of the peacekeeping process lies in the hands of the United Nations Security Council, and he called on the international community to support efforts aiming to settle disputes.

Moreover, during his speech at the UNSC, Sisi called for the enforcement of an agreement enhancing peace signed by the United Nations and African Union last April. He also strengthened the importance of respecting political and social privacy of countries witnessing conflicts.

He added that Egypt has been one of the pioneer countries participating in the peacekeeping operations in the Congo.

"Egypt continues its regional and international role in achieving peace and security through its participation in international organizations," he said.

President Sisi is currently participating in the United Nations General Assembly’s 72nd session. He gave a speech on Tuesday where he confirmed Egypt’s sincere commitment to the internationally recognized U.N. values, as well as its full adherence to the anti-terrorism strategy. Egypt is not only confined to the military solution, but also incorporates fighting terrorism on a cultural, educational and religious front.

“Members of different international alliances should answer the questions we are raising. Answers are usually avoided by those who prefer duplicity in order to attain narrow political interests at the demise of states and at the expense of bloodshed by their people, which we shall not allow to be lost in vain under any circumstances,” the president said as reported by the U.N. Media Center on Tuesday.

On the sidelines of the 72nd session, President Sisi met with King Abdullah II of Jordan, U.S. President Donald Trump and U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, presidential spokesman Alaa Youssef said.
