CAIRO – 20 September 2017: Social media users have widely circulated an edited video of Qatari Foreign Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) on Tuesday, where he presumably attempts to shake hands with his Saudi counterpart and then poses for pictures.

In the video, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu, whose country supports Qatar in its ongoing crisis, appears to invite Al-Thani to shake hands with Saudi Foreign Minister Adel al-Jubeir.

Al-Thani then grins for pictures with 17 foreign ministers partaking in the UNGA.

Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Egypt have cut diplomatic ties with Qatar over accusations of supporting terrorism and destabilizing the respective nations.

The Qatari foreign minister has been the center of sarcastic videos since the outbreak of the differences between Doha and its neighbors, including the below video comparing his English skills and confidence to those of his UAE counterpart Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
