CAIRO – 18 September 2017: In a rare phone call between Head of Hamas’s Political Bureau Ismail Haniyeh and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, Haniyeh welcomed the National Accord government due to assume power in Gaza Tuesday.

In the Monday phone call made by Haniyeh emphasized the “positivity” in the Palestinian political scene after the dissolution of Hamas’s Administrative Committee, which had been in control of the strip, in a prelude to a national election and dialogues between Palestinian factions in Cairo, according to a statement by Hamas.

“We are adamant that we go forward in the steps to end the division, in all determination and will, to unite the Palestinian people in the face of dangers and challenges surrounding the Palestinian cause,” the statement said.

Haniyeh extended his wishes to Abbas to succeed in entrenching Palestinian rights during his participation at the United Nations General Assembly.

Hamas also praised the Egyptian efforts in reaching national reconciliation in the Palestinian territories.
