MEXICO CITY - 15 September 2017: Category 1 Hurricane Max touched down on Mexico's west coast, targeting a touristic area that includes Acapulco, Zihuatanejo and Ixtapa resorts, the U.S. National Hurricane Center said.

The center said that the hurricane brought maximum winds of 129 km per hour and was about 89 km east southeast of Acapulco, Sky News reported.

The center also warned of heavy rains and flooding in the southern coastal states of Guerrero and Oaxaca.

Hurricane Max arrives a week after a powerful 8.1-magnitude earthquake hit southern Mexico and destroyed thousands of buildings in the state of Oaxaca, killing at least 98 people.
