CAIRO - 7 September 2017: An Arab-Japanese ministerial meeting will be held on Monday to discus a number of regional and international issues of common concern.

The meeting, due to be held at the headquarters of the Arab League (AL) General Secretariat, will focus only on political issues, an Arab diplomat said in statements to MENA on Thursday.

The latest developments in the Middle East and East Asia will have the top priority during the activities of the dialogue that will bring together Japan's Foreign Minister Taro Kono and their Arab counterparts, alongside the AL Secretary General Ahmed Abul Gheit, the source added.

Also, the two sides will probe the possibility for deepening the political dialogue, with a view to coordinate situations at the international forums, without violating the principles of the international law and the UN’s charter and respecting states’ sovereignty, the source stressed.

They will touch on a proposal to reform the UN Security Council (UNSC) through increasing the number of permanent and non-permanent seats to represent all world states.

Among the issues to be discussed in the dialogue are the Palestinian, Syrian, Libyan and Yemeni issues.

The two sides will review in detail the latest developments in the Korean Peninsula in the light of the recent nuclear bomb test conducted by North Korea.
