CAIRO – 4 September 2017: Egypt's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Amr Abul Atta, called on North Korea to stop violating the Security Council resolutions during the second emergency U.N. Security Council meeting on North Korea’s test nuclear explosion.

Pyongyang must stop all violations and procedures that contradict the UNSC resolutions and cease additional actions that will increase regional and global instability, stated Abul Atta.

“Egypt strongly condemns North Korea’s repeated violations and asks the UNSC to act on the issue in terms of its responsibility,” said Abul Atta.

Abul Atta called on all responsible parties to seek peaceful accommodation inside the Korean peninsula, aiming to get rid of all nuclear weapons and find ongoing peace between the two Koreas. “Egypt welcomes constructive ideas and initiatives that would achieve these aims,” Abul Atta added.

UNSC announced Sunday that an emergency meeting will be held the next day to discuss North Korea’s announcement that it had successfully tested a hydrogen bomb that could be loaded on an intercontinental ballistic missile.
