SYDNEY - 4 September 2017: Pope Tawadros II of Alexandria and Patriarch of Saint Mark Diocese visited on Monday Saint Mark's Coptic Orthodox College.

Pope Tawadros was accompanied by Bishop Anba Daniel of Sydney.

The pontiff was welcomed by school students and their parents.

Coptic Churches play a big role in linking between the Coptic Orthodox Church in Egypt and Egyptian Copts abroad, Pope Tawadros said in statements during the visit.

These schools teach students the teachings of the Orthodox Church to raise citizens capable of serving their church and society, he added.

Pope Tawadros arrived in Sydney last week from Japan on his first papal visit to Australia since his inauguration in November of 2012.

During the visit, he laid down the foundation stone of several churches.
