CAIRO - 30 August 2017: Pope Tawadros II of Alexandria and Patriarch of Saint Mark’s Diocese laid the foundation stone for the headquarters of the new Archbishopric Egyptian Church in Sydney, Australia on Wednesday.

The pope's visit to Australia began on Wednesday and will continue until September 13.

The event took place in the presence of Bishop Daniel of Sydney and representatives of the Egyptian embassy in Australia.

Pope Tawadros II arrived on Wednesday in Australia. This was the second stop of his papal tour, which has already taken him to Japan. Upon their arrival, Egyptian Ambassador to Australia Mohamed Khairat and members of the Egyptian embassy welcomed them. During the visit, the pope will carry out several pastoral activities and inaugurate a number of service projects.
