CAIRO - 30 August 2017: President Abdel Fatah Al-Sisi has asserted the importance of establishing al Mahmoudia axis based on an integrated blueprint, which includes building some service-related facilities along the axis.

Also, Sisi called for providing means of public transportation and setting up a drainage network for rainwater, which in turn could prevent high water levels during the rainy season.

He made the remarks during a meeting with the governors of Alexandria and Behira to review plans for developing al Mahmoudia axis, Presidential Spokesman Alaa Youssef said on Wednesday.

The project comes as part of a blueprint to upgrade the infrastructure system across the nation, Youssef quoted Sisi as saying.

Sisi stressed the necessity of providing drinking water and sanitation in different governorates, in addition to stepping up efforts to offer high-quality services to citizens, Youssef noted.

Furthermore, Sisi stressed the importance of finalizing plans related to the axis in order to start the implementation of the project as soon as possible, Youssef added.

Moreover, Sisi and the two governors have discussed proposed blueprints to build the axis under the supervision of the northern military zone.

The 21-kilometer-long axis is expected to contribute to easing traffic jam in Alexandria, cutting losses of Nile water and curbing the spread of slums.
