CAIRO – 29 August 2017: The Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoygu announced on Tuesday that joint military exercises by Russian and Egyptian paratroopers will take place in September for the first time on Russian territories. These exercises are titled “Friendship Defenders 2017.”

The paratroopers will train on joint parachute landing fall, maneuvering when executing a mission, occupying a mountainous area, reconnaissance, and cities invasion. The exercises will take place in Krasnodar Krai southern Russia characterized by its subtropical highland climate.

It is noted that the Friendship Defenders 2016 exercises took place in Egypt near Alexandria whereas Russian and Egyptian paratroopers trained on parachute landing fall, usage of anti-tank rifles and firearms.

What is more, Egyptian pilots are currently undergoing training in Russia on Kamov Ka-52K helicopters designed for operation aboard Egyptian Mistral-class amphibious assault ships.

“Next year, their training is planned to be completed,” Chief Designer of the Kamov Design Bureau Sergei Mikheyev told TASS on Monday.
