CAIRO – 28 August 2017: The spokesperson of the Revolution Brigade (Lewaa Al-Thawra), a militant group, revealed his group’s strong ties with the outlawed Muslim Brotherhood, according to two interviews published on pro-Brotherhood Facebook pages to reveal the truth behind the Brotherhood’s role in targeting security forces by Lewaa Al-Thawra members.

“Our [Lewaa Al-Thawra] ideology is originally inspired from the ideology and writings of Sayyid Qutob, Hassan al-Banna, Abu Mosaab Al-Sory and Abdullah Azzam. They are our godfathers and we cannot oppose their ideas,” Salah Eddin Youssef, Lewaa Al-Thawra spokesman, admitted in the first interview published on July 31 on QAAF Facebook page known for its support to various terrorism groups.

In response to a question on QAAF, Youssef stressed ousted President Mohamed Morsi “must be reinstated”, adding that “Lewaa Al-Thawra’s main mission is to topple the Egyptian state via targeting security personnel.”

He admitted that the recent security campaigns have weakened their group, manifesting that the security’s tightened grip has hindered joining of new members in their militant group.

“Freeing detainees from prisons is our priority,” Youssef said in his second interview on August 21 on QAAF.

The group announced its formation on August 21, 2016, when it uploaded pictures and a dramatized video of an attack on a security checkpoint in Monofeya that left two policemen dead.

Lewaa al-Thawra’s formation has been welcomed by Hasm.
