BAGHDAD - 25 August 2017: Commander of the Counter Terrorism Service (CTS) elite units Lieutenant General Abdul Ghani al Asadi said on Friday that Iraqi forces recaptured more than 50 percent of the city of Tal Afar in Nineveh governorate held by Daesh terrorist group.

Asadi pointed out that Iraqi forces have destroyed all Daesh fortifications in the area while scores of Daesh elements have been killed.

Asadi added that Daesh elements began to retreat towards provinces of Taleea and Qalaa after being defeated by Iraqi forces.

The battle for fully liberating Tal Afar may take only several days, Asadi noted.
