CAIRO – 25 August 2017: Tamim is launching an expanded arrest campaign of senior security leaders opposing the policy of Qatar’s emir Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani to prevent a future coup, the Qatari opposition group Qatar Mubasher, said on Twitter.

This campaign comes after Tamim refused to permit Qatari citizens from performing pilgrimage this year despite Saudi Arabia’s to facilitate the pilgrimage at the expense of king Salman, Qatar Mubasher added.

Expanded arrest campaigns targeted many senior figures, such as Qatari senior State Security leaders headed by Colonel Ismail Abdullah Al-Mutawa due to his opposition of Tamim’s policy.

Earlier this month, top Qatari army leaders were detained including the Chief of Staff’s office manager.

On August 17 king Salman bin Abdulaziz of Saudi Arabia issued a royal decree allowing Qatari pilgrims to enter Saudi Arabia for hajj through the Salwa land port without electronic permits. The king also ordered Saudi Arabian Airlines send planes to Doha to transport all Qatari pilgrims directly into the kingdom at the king’s expense.
