Barzani says Kurdistan independence referendum to be held on time

BAGHDAD - Aug 2017: Kurdish President Masoud Barzani on Thursday said the Kurdistan independence referendum will not be postponed.

The referendum is planned to be held on September 25.

Kurdistan gained autonomous governance based on the 2005 constitution, but is still considered a part of Iraq.

The region was created in 1970 based on an agreement with the Iraqi government, ending years of conflicts.
