Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry witnesses the signing of cooperation protocol with the secretary of ESCWA on Wednesday

CAIRO – 24 August 2017: Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry received on Wednesday the executive secretary of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA), Mohammed Ali Al-Hakim, to discuss ways to enhance mutual cooperation.

In the framework of mutual cooperation, Shoukry signed a cooperation protocol with the ESCWA that intentionally prioritizes the needs of the Egyptian people.

During the meeting, Shoukry expressed his appreciation for the significant role ESCWA plays in promoting economic and sustainable development efforts in various Arab countries, stressing that Egypt has a huge interest in the reports and studies conducted by the ESCWA regarding the economic and social developments in the region.

Shoukry also underlined Egypt’s full readiness to provide all forms of support to the ESCWA to continue carrying out reports and studies that are based on the real economic situations of these countries, according to a Wednesday press release.

The statement added that Shoukry expressed his aspiration to further bilateral cooperation between Egypt and the ESCWA, especially in the areas of technical support and capacity building, stressing the importance of exchanging relevant practices in regards to economic developments.

Founded in 1973, the ESCWA aims to increase the economic activities in its member countries and to meet the needs of their respective people.
