Egypt among 5 cheapest countries in meat prices: UK Company

CAIRO - 23 August 2017: Egypt was ranked among the 5 cheapest countries according to prices of meat, chicken and fish, according to the British publisher Caterwings.

In a list including 52 countries, Egypt ranked number 48, with Brazil, India, Malaysia and Ukraine following.

The 2017 Meat Price Index was gathered by a British company called Caterwings, which according to their website, was carried out by analyzing meat prices in every country’s top cities and comparing it to the minimum wage of each country and its affordability.

The average meat price in Egypt was $7.1, chicken was $3.59, $8.22 for white fish and $28.5 for salmon.

Switzerland came in first for the highest prices of meat, where the price of one kilo of meat reached $49.7, $27.14 for chickens, and $33.30 for salmon. After Switzerland, Norway came second on the list, followed by Hong Kong, Israel and Sweden.

Earlier this month, Egypt’s imports of meat declined 20.3 percent to reach $113.2 million in May, compared to $142 million during the same period of the previous year, according to the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS).
