CAIRO – 22 August 2017: Three veterinary quarantines are under construction on border areas over the Red Sea and the Mediterranean away from residential communities to conduct medical check-ups for imported cattle, the Head of the Central Administration for Veterinary Quarantines Ahmed Abdel Karim told Egypt Today on Tuesday.

The administration belongs to the General Authority for Veterinary Services affiliated with the Ministry of Agriculture.

The authority is in charge of supervising veterinary quarantines built by the private sector ensuring its alignment with terms and conditions.

The first veterinary quarantine on Egyptian borders is being built currently in Toshki at New Valley governorate, and Abu Simbel to carry out medical check-ups for cattle imported from Sudan.

Another is being constructed in southeastern Port Said governorate, near Suez Canal, in order to examine cattle imported from Europe.

The third one is located on Safaga-Qusair road to conduct medical examination for cattle imported from Africa.

Abdel Karim said that the administration is keeping record of existing public and private veterinary quarantines to include them in a database and grant those codes.
