CAIRO - 20 August 2017: The Afghan ambassador to Egypt, Fazlurrahman Fazil, stressed in a statement to Egypt Today that Egypt and Afghanistan are facing the same enemy represented in combating “terrorism and extremist ideologies.”

In this statement, which was on the occasion of the 98th anniversary of Afghan independence from the British occupation, Fazil noted that the Egyptian-Afghan relations are “at its best stage in history,” as the number of Afghan students who received scholarships from Al-Azhar and Egyptian universities increased from 200 students four years ago to 500 this year.

Fazil also highlighted that the circumstances in Egypt are “completely safe,” praising President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi’s efforts in restoring security in the country.

The Afghan Embassy in Cairo celebrated on Saturday the 98th anniversary of its country's independence in an event attended by several diplomats. Afghanistan gained its independence in 1919, the same year as the Egyptian revolution.
