NEW YORK - 19 August 2017: Yemeni Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulmalik Al Mekhlafi said Friday 4,164 civilians have been killed in the ongoing war in Taiz city in southwestern Yemen.

Speaking during an extraordinary session of the UN Security Council on the Yemeni crisis, he said that 7,911 people, mostly women and children, were also injured in Taiz city.

Mekhlafi affirmed his government's adherence to reach a political solution based on the three references agreed upon at local, regional and international levels, namely the Gulf initiative and its executive mechanisms, the outputs of the national dialogue and the relevant UNSC resolutions.

The Yemeni government is ready to make all concessions needed for reaching a just and sustainable peace, which the Yemeni people deserve, on condition of they are in conformity with the terms of reference, he added.
