CAIRO – 17 August 2017: The Maritime Transport Technical Committee of Arab Ministers of Transport Council held its 18th meeting today at the headquarters of the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States chaired by Kamal El-Bandary; Undersecretary of the Ministry of Transport, and with the participation of senior maritime transport officials in Arab countries.

"For one day, the meeting discussed a range of issues of joint Arab action in maritime transport in light of paper presented by the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport to investigate maritime accidents and establish an independent Arab center for marine accident investigations," said Dr. Dina El Zaher, director of the Transport and Tourism department at the Arab University.

In an endeavor to achieve the targeted objectives of joint Arab-Chinese interests, the committee also discussed a working paper submitted by the said Arab Academy on the impact of the "El Hareer" Road on Arab countries from an integrated perspective. They also held a workshop for Arab-Chinese Cooperation to explore investment opportunities between the Arab countries and China in Maritime Transport, Railways, and building roads and logistics areas.

El Hareer, or Silk Road, is a proposed advanced enterprise which will be designated a Free Zone for trade, investment and business which China plans to build, to connect the continents of Asia, Africa and Europe at a cost of $ 47 billion. The road will passes through 56 countries.
