CAIRO – 13 August 2017: Citizens renting on Waraq island or citizens who have illegally built on state-owned property or who have built on their land illegally will be compensated with another proper residence, said Kamel al-Wazir, Head of Engineering Department of the Armed Forces on Sunday.

He said, “Island residents who have built illegally and have grown bored and want to leave, we will compensate you fully,” according to Al-Masry Al-Youm.

In his meeting with some of the residents of Waraq, Wazir said, “Those who came from Mansoura or Menoufia to build illegally here, there are other places. Why here?” This is what allegedly angered some of the attendees of the meeting, who told him that all island residents are natives.

“So because it is your land, you build on it illegally? Of course not,” he replied.
