CAIRO - 11 August 2017: A video showing Azmi Bishara, former Knesset member and advisor of Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, swearing allegiance to the state of Israel began circulating on Facebook Thursday.

Azmi Bishara, one of the most prominent faces in the field of Qatari politics, is an Israeli-Palestinian politician and a former member of the Israeli Knesset. He became well-known for promoting Qatar’s ideas and policies through Al-Jazeera's Qatari channel, before being selected to become the Qatari emir’s advisor.

However, the mask of loyalty towards Qatar that Bishara is wearing right now was preceded by another mask of loyalty towards Israel, even while its army was waging military operations against his people in Palestine.

In 1996, Bishara was then elected a member of the Knesset, swearing the oath of allegiance, which requires loyalty to Israel. In 2007, Bishara fled Israel on charges of having a relationship with Hezbollah during the 2006 Lebanon war, submitting his resignation from the Knesset to the Israeli consul in Cairo, before later settling in Doha.

In Qatar, Bishara led the Qatari media plan to spread chaos through Al Jazeera channel. After Tamim bin Hamad came to power as the Emir of Qatar, he appointed Bishara as his advisor.
