CAIRO- 9 August 2017: Member of the Health Affairs Committee of the House of Representatives Ayman Abou El Ela on Wednesday, August 9, called for grosser criminalization of pharmaceutical counterfiet in Egypt tantamount to penalty for intentional killing in view of the harm it causes to citizens’ health.

”Trade in counterfeit medicines has increased more than drug trafficking,” said Abou El Ela urging the Ministry of Interior to exert more efforts for strict monitoring of medicine distributers to combat pharmaceutical fraud.

Grosser punishment may help in combating pharmaceutical fraud which is causing harm to citizens’ health, Abou El Ela stressed.

This will also oblige pharmaceutical companies to write the prices on medicines packages, confirmed Abou El Ela.

The Health Affairs Committee in the House of Representatives has also called for monitoring pharmacies and amending laws to tighten control and increase penalties for handling and selling expired and counterfeit drugs.
