ANKARA - 8 August 2017: Turkey started constructing a wall along the country's border with Iran, Sky News reported.

Local media sources were cited as saying that Governor of Agri Province Suleyman Elban inspected the construction of the security wall which will be two meters wide and three meters high with portable blocks.

The Turkish authorities are putting up the wall along the Iranian border to strengthen its security by stopping the infiltration of Kurdish militants and smugglers.

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan had announced in January plans to build a wall along its borders with Iraq and Iran, similar to the one currently being put up along the 911 km borderline with Syria.
