CAIRO – 7 August 2017: Police forces arrested a man for stabbing his wife to death on Monday in downtown Cairo among several eyewitnesses.

In a formal statement issued shortly after the incident, Abdeen police station said that they received information regarding the attack of a woman with a knife in the streets near downtown, so they moved quickly to the location of the incident, arresting the man and transferring the woman to the hospital.

During the investigations, the man said that his wife had been missing for a while after an argument, and later, he discovered that she had married two other men. “I vowed to kill her,” he said.

Combining between two husbands is considered a crime under Egyptian law.

“The law considers combining between more than one husband as a crime punishable by imprisonment for two years, as the first marriage is considered right, and the second invalid,” lawyer Mohamed Ashraf said in statements to Dotmsr on June8.

He added that the only way to prove the innocence of any woman in a similar case is to prove that she had divorced from her first husband, otherwise she would be jailed.
