CAIRO – 7 August 2017: The investigation team of Luxor security directorate disclosed the identity of the main terrorist attacker of Esna checkpoint, south Luxor, who fled the scene after committing the attack late Thursday.

The investigation team watched surveillance cameras fitted out in the area and knew the attacker’s identity as Amr Saad Abbas.

The fled perpetrator was wanted by police for investigation into a number of incidents.
Luxor security directorate had posted photos of the terrorist attacker on walls of several places in the town, urging families to help in reporting.

The Interior Ministry said Thursday that security forces arrested one of two attackers who killed two people including a policeman in a shooting attack on a checkpoint in Esna, Luxor.

A policeman and a civilian were killed, and two other people were injured in a shooting incident targeting a security check point in Esna city, Southern Luxor, late-night Thursday.

The police found with the perpetrator a machine gun, sniper weapon, an explosive belt and a device which was defused later by an explosives expert.

Director of Luxor’s security directorate and Luxor governor immediately arrived at the scene of the accident to assess the situation and any repercussions.
