Egypt supports upgrading UN sanctions, making them effective

CAIRO - 4 August 2017: Egypt has underscored the importance of enhancing the effectiveness of UN sanctions.

This came during a United Nations Security Council (UNSC) session, chaired by Egypt, on improving the UN sanctions regime.

Assistant Secretary-General for Political Affair Taye-Brook Zerihoun reviewed the role of sanctions in maintaining global peace and security, their development as well as measures meant to implement them effectively.

Egypt affirmed the necessity of upgrading the sanctions regime, making it more effective along with reducing its negative impacts, said Spokesman for the Foreign Ministry Ahmed Abu Zeid on Friday.
