ADEN - 3 August 2017: The elite forces affiliated to the legitimate Yemeni forces liberated Azan city, the second largest cities of Shabwah governorate, Yemeni security sources said on Thursday.

The elite forces in Shabwah had control over Azan city after expelling Al Qaeda terrorist group under air cover of Saudi-led coalition.

After liberation, they set up security points on the exit and entrance of the city, Online Aden Al Ghad reported quoting witnesses.

The elite forces' control on Al Haban and Azan cities comes within the framework of a security campaign has been conducted in Shabwah governorate after witnessing unprecedented security breakdown.

Al Qaeda insurgents launched a suicide attack on Wednesday that targeted a military barracks for the elite forces in Shabwah city.

Seven servicemen were dead and eight others wounded in this attack.
