CAIRO - 2 August 2017: Egypt called on the international community and the UN to deter financiers of terrorist groups.

During a UN meeting on Wednesday, Egypt's permanent envoy to the United Nations ِِAmr Abul Ata offered an Egyptian initiative to deter people from supplying terrorist groups with weapons. The gathering unanimously approved the initiative.

"The armament of terrorist groups is a very serious crime that should be handled," Abul Ata said, adding that the initiative calls for boosting judicial cooperation among the world countries to prevent terrorists from getting weapons.

He also appealed to the UN Counter-Terrorism Committee to pay due regard to this important issue.

Egyptian President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi offered a comprehensive vision to counter terrorism in May after some countries supplied terrorist groups with weapons and funds to carry out terrorist attacks in Egypt, Abul Ata noted.

He also called on the world countries to adhere to the UN resolutions, which call for facing terrorism by all means in line with the UN Charter and international law.

At the end of the address, Abul Ata said Egypt will always maintain its commitment to be at the forefront of the fight against terrorism while respecting international law and human rights.
