MOSCOW - 2 August 2017: Russian Defense Ministry Spokesman Maj. Gen. Igor Konashenkov denied the news report issued in one of the news agencies on the number of Russian casualties in Syria.

In a statement released Wednesday, Konashenkov said that the news agency "is attempting to discredit by any means Russia's operation aiming to destroy Daesh terrorists and return peace to Syria."

He added: "An article about alleged heavy secret losses among Russian servicemen in Syria, released especially for the Russian Airborne Troops Day, is not exception. The sources again are rumors, social networks data and talks with anonymous relatives and friends."

Konashenkov also asserted "There have been no alleged secret graves of the Russian servicemen killed in Syria."
