Egypt, Jordan FMs discuss palestinian developments and regional de-escalation efforts

CAIRO - 28 July 2-26: Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty held a phone call Tuesday with Jordanian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Safadi to discuss developments in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip, as well as ongoing efforts to de-escalate tensions and contain rising regional instability.

The talks came within the framework of continued consultation and coordination between Egypt and Jordan on bilateral issues and regional developments of mutual concern.

The two ministers praised the depth and special nature of relations between Egypt and Jordan, reaffirming their shared commitment to strengthening coordination and consultation at both the bilateral and regional levels in a manner that serves the interests of the two countries and their peoples and supports regional security and stability.

The phone call addressed the latest developments in the West Bank and Gaza, with both ministers expressing deep concern over the deteriorating situation in the occupied Palestinian territories.

They condemned the continued Israeli violations in the West Bank, Gaza and occupied East Jerusalem, as well as the escalating violence, stressing the need to halt all measures that undermine prospects for peace and the two-state solution.

The ministers also underscored the importance of implementing all components of the US president's peace plan for Gaza, in a way that would help consolidate the ceasefire, ensure full humanitarian access and create conditions for moving to subsequent phases.

They further reviewed regional developments and efforts aimed at reducing tensions and containing escalation, stressing the need for an immediate halt to all military and escalatory actions and for prioritizing political and diplomatic solutions to prevent the conflict from expanding.

Abdelatty reiterated Egypt's full solidarity with Jordan and reaffirmed Cairo's rejection of any infringement on Jordan's sovereignty, as well as its support for the kingdom's security and stability.

For his part, Safadi expressed appreciation for Egypt's supportive stance toward Jordan, emphasizing the importance of maintaining close coordination and consultation between the two brotherly countries.
