Egypt aims to become regional flax hub by 2030

CAIRO - 27 July 2026: Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly ordered a full evaluation and development strategy for Tanta Flax and Oil Company on Monday, directing officials to draw up an executive plan to advance Egypt's flax cultivation and manufacturing sector.

Madbouly made the directives during a cabinet meeting convened to review a comprehensive vision for upgrading the crop's supply chain, according to a Cabinet statement.

The strategy outlines Egypt's competitive advantages in global flax value chains and highlights opportunities to position the country as a regional hub for the flax industry by 2030.

Madbouly emphasized that expanding flax production will maximize value addition for various downstream industries, leveraging Egypt's existing industrial infrastructure and strategic location to access surrounding export markets through coordinated inter-ministerial efforts.
