CAIRO – 27 July 2026: Egypt advanced five spots in the Global Entrepreneurship Index to rank 35th out of 53 countries for 2025/2026, up from 40th place in 2024/2025. The rise reflects steady improvements across financing, infrastructure, and cultural support for startups.
The findings were released in a new report by the Cabinet’s Information and Decision Support Center (IDSC) as part of its periodical series, "Egypt in International Indicators: From Challenges to Achievements," which tracks the country's standing across major global benchmarks.
Published by the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor, the index measures the quality of entrepreneurial environments across 53 economies using 13 sub-indicators that evaluate ecosystem readiness and support for new ventures.
The report also highlighted Egypt's steady climb in the Global Startup Ecosystem Index, where the country has advanced roughly 16 places over six years. Egypt now ranks 65th out of 118 countries for 2026, with Cairo standing out as one of North Africa's premier startup hubs. Today, Egypt boasts a startup density of about four companies per 100,000 people and is home to a startup valued at over $1 billion.
Beyond tracking scores, the IDSC report detailed key national initiatives driving this growth, including the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology’s "Creativa" initiative, which builds tech skills among Egyptian youth to align with evolving labor market needs.
To further consolidate these efforts, the government established the Ministerial Group for Entrepreneurship under Prime Ministerial Decree No. 2878. The comprehensive framework aims to boost startup capacities, foster a knowledge-based economy, and generate high-quality job opportunities.
