Temporary break in recent heatwave across the country

CAIRO – 27 July 2026: The Climate Information Center at the Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation has announced a temporary break in the recent heatwave. Temperatures are expected to decrease slightly across northern regions, including Greater Cairo and Upper Egypt, toward the end of July, while extremely hot weather will persist in the far south.

The Egyptian Meteorological Authority (EMA) confirmed that this temporary dip in temperatures will continue across parts of northern Egypt, extending down into Cairo and Upper Egypt on Monday, July 27.

Dr. Mahmoud Shaheen, Director General of the Weather Forecasting and Early Warning Department at the EMA, provided the following maximum shade temperatures (expected vs. perceived):

Greater Cairo: High 35°C | Perceived 37°C

Lower Egypt: High 34°C | Perceived 36°C

Northwest Coast: High 29°C | Perceived 32°C

Northeast Coast: High 31°C | Perceived 35°C

Northern Upper Egypt: High 36°C | Perceived 38°C

Southern Upper Egypt: High 44°C | Perceived 45°C

Weather will remain warm and humid in the early morning and nighttime hours across most of the country. Daytime conditions will be hot and humid in northern regions and Greater Cairo, becoming extremely hot and humid in the south.

Low clouds may form over scattered areas of the northern coast, the Nile Delta, Greater Cairo, and the Suez Canal cities, potentially bringing light, brief drizzle to some locations. Morning mist is also expected between 4:00 AM and 8:00 AM from northern Egypt down through central Sinai and northern Upper Egypt. Additionally, there is a minor chance of light rain (around 30 percent) occurring intermittently from Halaib to the far south of the Eastern Desert.

Winds will be active at intervals across most of the country, with speeds ranging from 30 to 35 km/h, helping to temper night conditions in exposed areas. However, these winds may trigger localized dust storms from Halaib to the far southern Eastern Desert. Coastal winds will also cause elevated waves between 1.5 and 2.25 meters along several northern beaches, including Salloum, Marsa Matrouh, El-Alamein, Alexandria, Baltim, Gamasa, Damietta, and Port Said.

Maritime navigation along parts of the Gulf of Suez coast will be disrupted due to wind speeds reaching 50 to 60 km/h and wave heights rising to 2 to 3 meters.
