Egypt documents 2K rare, ancient trees nationwide

CAIRO – 26 July 2026: Engineer Mohamed Abu Saada, head of the National Organization for Urban Harmony (NOUH), affiliated with the Ministry of Culture, announced that the organization has documented 2,000 rare and ancient trees across governorates nationwide as part of efforts to establish a national archive of Egypt's rare and historic trees.

Speaking to Al-Masry Al-Youm, Abu Saada said the archive includes an identification profile for each tree, containing comprehensive information such as its estimated age, country of origin, how it was introduced to Egypt, and recommended methods for its care and preservation.

The initiative is designed to raise public awareness of the importance of conserving rare and ancient trees. Each registered tree is marked with a QR code that links to a dedicated online database, where users can access detailed information about the tree, including its condition and any maintenance or restoration work it has undergone.

Following the documentation process, the organization will coordinate with the relevant government entities responsible for managing these trees, including local authorities, the Ministry of Agriculture, and civil society organizations, to support their ongoing protection and preservation. According to Abu Saada, this coordination is already underway.
