CAIRO - 26 July 2026: The Egyptian authorities confiscated 10 illegaly traded chameleons and several turtles during an inspection of a campsite in downtown Cairo.  

  
  
 This incident serves as an important reminder that Egypt's wildlife is protected by law. Under Article 28 of Environment Law No. 4 of 1994, as amended, it is prohibited to hunt, capture, display, possess, or sell protected birds and wild animals without the required authorization.
  
 
The acquisition, possession, or display of protected wildlife without a valid license constitutes an environmental crime and may result in legal accountability.
