Egypt’s FM holds calls with Omani, Iranian counterparts to disscus regional de-escalation

CAIRO – 25 July 2026: Dr. Badr Abdelatty, Egypt's Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptians Abroad, held separate phone calls with Omani Foreign Minister Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi as part of ongoing consultations on regional developments and efforts to reduce tensions and restore security and stability across the region.

During the discussions, the ministers reviewed ongoing efforts to promote calm and de-escalation. Abdelatty stressed the urgent need to halt all military and escalatory actions immediately and to prioritise political and diplomatic solutions to contain rising tensions, prevent the conflict from widening, and strengthen regional peace and stability. He also underscored the importance of sparing the peoples of the region the consequences of further escalation.

The Egyptian foreign minister further emphasised the importance of safeguarding freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz and the Red Sea, describing it as a cornerstone of regional security and stability. He noted that ensuring the security of these vital waterways is essential to protecting international trade and global supply chains.

Abdelatty also called for avoiding any actions that could threaten the safety of maritime shipping routes or disrupt navigation, stressing that preserving the security of these strategic waterways serves the interests of all countries in the region as well as the global economy.
