Cairo, Manila sign agreement to export five Egyptian agricultural commodities to the Philippine market

CAIRO – 25 July 2026: Egypt and the Philippines signed an agreement on Friday, 24 July, granting immediate market access for five Egyptian agricultural commodities: grapes, onions, garlic, tomatoes, and carrots.

According to a statement from Egypt's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Immigration and Egyptian Expatriates, the agreement was signed by Dr. Badr Abdelatty, Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation, and Egyptians Abroad, on the sidelines of the tenth round of political consultations between Egypt and the Philippines. The meeting marked the first ministerial-level political consultations between the two countries since the mechanism was established. The Philippine delegation was led by Maria Teresa Lázaro, Secretary of Foreign Affairs.

The two ministers described the agreement as a significant step towards strengthening bilateral economic and trade cooperation, adding that it marks the beginning of a new phase of partnership in the field of food security.

They said the agreement is expected to boost bilateral trade and advance the shared economic interests of both countries. The ministers also highlighted ongoing coordination between the relevant authorities to complete the procedures required for Egyptian potato exports to enter the Philippine market, with support from the Egyptian Embassy in Manila.

In addition, both sides reaffirmed their commitment to expanding economic cooperation by increasing Egyptian fertilizer exports, facilitating the registration of Egyptian medicines and food supplements in the Philippines, and promoting exports of Egyptian cotton fabrics and textiles. These efforts reflect the two countries' shared determination to expand trade, strengthen investment ties, and deepen their economic partnership.
