EU approves €1.5 billion installment for Egypt

CAIRO – 24 July 2026: The European Commission approved on Friday, 24 July, the disbursement of the second €1.5 billion installment under the second tranche of its financial support package for Egypt, the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced in a statement.

The transfer completes the €5 billion allocated to Egypt under the Macro-Financial Assistance (MFA) programme. The first installment of the second tranche, worth €1 billion, was disbursed in January 2026, following the initial €1 billion first tranche released in 2024.

According to the ministry, the European Commission's decision comes within the framework of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between Egypt and the European Union, established in March 2024. It reflects the strength of relations between the two sides and the progress achieved across various areas of cooperation.

The ministry added that the decision underscores the importance of the partnership in supporting the Egyptian government's efforts to achieve economic stability and advance sustainable development. It also reflects the European Union's confidence in Egypt's role in promoting regional security and stability, recognising the country as a key pillar of stability in the Middle East, the southern Mediterranean, and Africa.

The ministry noted that Egypt has maintained close engagement with various European Union institutions at all levels in recent months to secure the support needed to implement the political, economic, and security pillars of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. These efforts aim to advance the shared interests of both Egypt and the European Union while strengthening cooperation in priority areas.
