Friday: Heatwave breaks across the country

CAIRO – 24 July 2026: The Egyptian Meteorological Authority (EMA) announced that the latest satellite imagery indicates an easing of the heatwave on Friday across northern Egypt, including Greater Cairo and northern Upper Egypt, with temperatures dropping by 2°C to 3°C.

Dr. Mahmoud Shaheen, Director General of the Weather Forecasting and Early Warning Department, detailed expected maximum shade temperatures and perceived readings:

Greater Cairo: High 37°C | Perceived 39°C

Lower Egypt: High 36°C | Perceived 38°C

Northwest Coast: High 31°C | Perceived 34°C

Northeast Coast: High 33°C | Perceived 36°C

Northern Upper Egypt: High 38°C | Perceived 40°C

Southern Upper Egypt: High 44°C | Perceived 45°C

Expected Conditions

Warm and humid weather is anticipated early in the morning, becoming very hot and humid during the day across most of the country, though parts of the northern coast will see hot, humid conditions. Nighttime will remain warm and humid nationwide.

Winds will be active at times, reaching speeds of 30 to 35 km/h across most regions, helping to cool down exposed areas during the evening. Periodic dust storms may occur in parts of the Western Desert, Upper Egypt, and the Red Sea Governorate.

Stronger winds along coastal beaches (Salloum, Marsa Matrouh, El Alamein, Alexandria, Baltim, Port Said, Damietta, and Arish) are expected to produce waves between 1.5 and 2.5 meters high.

Additionally, there is a slight chance of low cloud cover developing over scattered parts of the North Coast, the Nile Delta, Greater Cairo, and Suez Canal cities, which could bring light, brief drizzle to isolated areas.
