CAIRO – 24 July 2026: Al-Azhar has strongly condemned the repeated storming of Al-Aqsa Mosque by Israeli officials, who were accompanied by thousands of extremist settlers under the protection of occupation forces to perform provocative rituals.

Al-Azhar emphasized that this recurring criminal behavior constitutes a blatant violation of the historical and legal status quo in Jerusalem, as well as a direct disregard for the feelings of Muslims worldwide.

Furthermore, Al-Azhar warned that the continuation of these systematic violations threatens to escalate the conflict and undermine efforts to achieve calm in the region. It clarified that attempts at Judaization and imposing a fait accompli will not alter the fact that Al-Aqsa Mosque, in its entirety, is a purely Islamic endowment. It will remain a testament to the Islamic nature of the holy sites and the Arab identity of Jerusalem.

Al-Azhar called upon the international community and the UN Security Council to assume their responsibilities by intervening urgently to stop these repeated attacks against holy sites in occupied Jerusalem, and to compel the occupation authorities to abide by international law. Finally, it prayed to God Almighty to protect Al-Aqsa Mosque, grant victory to those stationed there, spare the blood of the Palestinian people, and bestow security and stability upon the nation.
