CAIRO – 23 July 2026: Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation, and Egyptians Abroad, Badr Abdelatty, met on Thursday with Mauro Vieira, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Brazil, on the sidelines of the ASEAN Ministerial Meeting in Manila, Philippines.

The two ministers discussed ways to bolster bilateral relations and exchanged views on key regional and international issues of common interest.

Minister Abdelatty highlighted Egypt's strong, historical ties with Brazil, characterizing the nation as a pivotal strategic partner in Latin America. He commended the steady growth in bilateral relations since the signing of the Strategic Partnership Agreement and reiterated Egypt's commitment to building on this momentum through enhanced consultation and coordination across various sectors.

Abdelatty emphasized that Egypt places a high priority on South-South cooperation, rooted in the belief that shared interests, economic partnerships, and developmental collaboration among developing nations are essential to addressing global challenges and achieving sustainable development.

He also stressed the importance of deepening ties with Latin American and Caribbean countries, as well as regional economic blocs like Mercosur, to unlock new opportunities in trade, investment, and economic development. Additionally, he highlighted the need for closer political coordination in international forums, noting Brazil's central role as a key partner in these efforts.

On the economic front, Abdelatty affirmed that expanding trade and investment remains a top priority, pointing to recent growth in bilateral trade volume—particularly the increase in Egyptian exports to Brazil.

Turning to regional affairs, Minister Abdelatty outlined Egypt's ongoing diplomatic contacts and efforts aimed at de-escalating tensions across the region.

For his part, Foreign Minister Vieira praised the progress in bilateral relations and expressed Brazil's appreciation for Egypt's active role in fostering regional stability. He reaffirmed Brazil's desire to continue strengthening joint cooperation and coordination in the period ahead.
