Egyptian, Omani FMs renew condemnation of repeated Iranian attacks on Gulf states

CAIRO - 23 July 2026: Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty and Omani Foreign Minister Badr bin Hamad al Busaidi renewed their condemnation of repeated Iranian attacks on the sisterly Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states.

The remarks came during a meeting held on Thursday, July 23, 2026, on the sidelines of the 59th Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Foreign Ministers' Meeting, where the two ministers discussed ways to strengthen bilateral relations and coordinate on regional developments.

Abdelatty underscored the depth of the historic ties between Egypt and Oman, praising the outcomes of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi's successful bilateral visit to Oman in May.

He stressed the importance of further enhancing bilateral cooperation across the political, economic, trade, and investment fields, holding the 17th session of the Egyptian-Omani Joint Committee, and swiftly activating the Egyptian-Omani Business Council to serve the shared interests and aspirations of the two brotherly peoples.

Abdelatty also reviewed Egypt's intensive efforts to de-escalate regional tensions and bridge differences among all parties, reaffirming Egypt's full solidarity with the sisterly Gulf States and Jordan.

He said the repeated attacks constitute a flagrant violation of state sovereignty and a serious threat to regional security and stability, stressing the need for an immediate halt to all escalatory actions and practices that could fuel tensions, widen the scope of escalation in the region, or threaten the security of Arab states.

Meanwhile, the two top diplomats agreed on the importance of safeguarding freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz in accordance with international law, ensuring the security and safety of international shipping, and rejecting any attempts to impose restrictions on passage through international waterways, citing the negative consequences such measures would have for the global economy and energy security.

They also exchanged views on a number of regional issues of mutual interest, particularly maritime security and developments in the Gaza Strip and Yemen, reaffirming the importance of continued coordination and consultation on these issues to support security and stability across the region.
