Egypt’s FM commends Pakistan's mediation, stresses Importance of adherence to US-Iran MoU

CAIRO – 22 July 2026: Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Immigration, and Egyptian Expatriate Affairs, Badr Abdelatty, met on Wednesday with Mohammad Ishaq Dar, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Pakistan, on the sidelines of the ASEAN Ministerial Meeting in Manila.

The ministers discussed ways to strengthen bilateral relations and exchanged views on regional and international developments of mutual interest.

Praising the historic ties and close relations between Egypt and Pakistan, both diplomats emphasized their commitment to deepening bilateral cooperation across political, economic, trade, and investment fields, while exploring new avenues for partnership to serve the interests of both nations.

Minister Abdelatty highlighted the importance of following up on the outcomes of his visit to Pakistan last March. He expressed anticipation for the upcoming fourth session of the Joint Ministerial Committee—to be co-chaired by the foreign ministers of both countries—as well as the tenth session of ministerial-level political consultations. Abdelatty noted that these upcoming meetings will further boost bilateral ties and solidify existing cooperation frameworks.

Furthermore, Abdelatty stressed the need to enhance economic and investment cooperation. He proposed organizing business missions and reciprocal visits between business communities and chambers of commerce, connecting Pakistani investors with opportunities in the Suez Canal Economic Zone, and finalizing the establishment of the Egyptian-Pakistani Business Council.

On regional matters, Minister Abdelatty expressed appreciation for Pakistan’s coordination with regional partners, which contributed to reaching the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the United States and Iran.

He emphasized the necessity of adhering to the MoU to create conditions conducive to a final, sustainable agreement that enhances regional security and stability. Additionally, he pointed out the importance of building on the results of the four-party regional meeting Cairo hosted in June 2026 to advance negotiations and bridge differing viewpoints.
