Egypt welcomes Dutch decision to ban trade in goods from Israeli settlements

CAIRO - 22 July 2026: Egypt welcomed on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, the Dutch government's decision to ban trade in goods and products originating from Israeli settlements in the occupied Palestinian territories, including East Jerusalem.

In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptian Expatriates said the move reflects support for the values of justice and constitutes a practical and responsible application of international law and relevant international legitimacy resolutions, foremost among them UN Security Council Resolution 2334, which affirms the illegality of Israeli settlements and calls for their immediate cessation to preserve prospects for peace and the two-state solution.

Egypt, in line with its longstanding support for the Palestinian cause, called on all European Union member states and the international community to follow the examples of Belgium and the Netherlands by adopting similar legal measures to prohibit products originating from Israeli settlements.

The statement reaffirmed Egypt's position that achieving security and peace in the Middle East can only be realized through ending the occupation and enabling the Palestinian people to exercise their legitimate right to self-determination, foremost among them the establishment of an independent and sovereign Palestinian state along the June 4, 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
