Egypt’s Cabinet denies reports of baby formula shortage

CAIRO – 20 July 2026: Egypt's Cabinet Media Center has categorically denied reports circulating on social media claiming there is shortage in the supply of subsidized infant formula.

In a statement issued on Monday, the center said the Ministry of Health and Population is supplying the full allocated quantities of subsidized infant formula to all distribution outlets without any shortages or reductions.

The ministry stressed that the distribution process is proceeding and that current stocks are sufficient to meet the needs of eligible beneficiaries for the next six months.

The Cabinet Media Center added that it is working closely with the Ministry of Health and Population to ensure the efficiency of the distribution system. As part of these efforts, an automated circular was issued at the beginning of the year regarding the subsidy allocated for twins.

The statement also noted that the distribution system has been significantly upgraded through the electronic registration of eligible beneficiaries and the integration of the system with official birth and death records. The measures are intended to ensure that subsidized formula reaches those who are entitled to receive it.

According to the statement, the government's supplementary infant formula program currently operates through more than 1,235 distribution outlets across Egypt's governorates, in addition to around 300 automated committees responsible for reviewing applications. Beneficiaries can locate the nearest distribution outlet and obtain information by calling the Ministry of Health’s hotline at 105.

The Ministry of Health and Population reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring the continuous availability of subsidized infant formula and to supporting children's health and well-being across Egypt.
