CAIRO - 21 July 2026: Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Development and Minister of Transport Kamel al-Wazir officially honored Aswan resident Laila al-Ansary on Monday for confronting a group of children pelting a moving train with stones.
During the ceremony, Al-Wazir presented Al-Ansary with a certificate of appreciation and an employment contract to join Abela Egypt, the company managing national sleeper trains, based at the Aswan railway station.
Al-Wazir praised Al-Ansary's courage and civic awareness, calling her actions an honorable model of Egyptian citizenship for protecting public property and safeguarding passenger lives.
He added that the state will always recognize citizens who actively protect public infrastructure.
Al-Ansary expressed her pride in the recognition and her new job, emphasizing that protecting public transport is a national duty because trains belong to all Egyptians.
The minister told Al-Ansary, a graduate of the Faculty of Mass Communication, that he expects a great performance from her on the job. He said jobs at the ministry do not offer high wages, but offer high incentives for the hardworking.
The incident gained traction after Hassan recorded and posted a video of the children throwing stones at the train. In the footage, Hassan can be heard confronting the group, shouting, "You’re throwing stones at the train, by God I won’t let it go... I'm not afraid of you."
The children, who also attempted to throw stones at Hassan herself, were subsequently arrested by local police. During interrogation, they claimed they were merely "having fun" and had no other intentions.
