CAIRO - 20 July 2026: Minister of Foreign Affairs Badr Abdelatty confirmed on Monday Egypt’s readiness to host Mozambican President Daniel Chapo later this year to launch a new phase of bilateral development partnership.
Speaking at a joint press conference in Cairo alongside Mozambican Foreign Minister Maria Manuela Lucas, Abdelatty highlighted plans to expedite the third session of the Joint High Commission and finalize pending memorandums of understanding.
Abdelatty emphasized Egypt’s full commitment to transferring national expertise in infrastructure, housing, roads, agriculture, and water management to Mozambique.
He announced an upcoming Egyptian medical mission to the country and referenced a strategic $300 million project to establish a pharmaceutical logistics and manufacturing hub in Mozambique aimed at supplying Southern Africa.
On security, Abdelatty pledged Egypt’s firm support for Mozambique's fight against terrorism, particularly in its northern region, including military and security coordination.
He added that Egyptian religious institutions will expand scholarships and training programs for Mozambican imams to counter extremist ideology and promote moderation.
The ministers agreed on resolving African and Middle Eastern conflicts exclusively through peaceful diplomacy, rejecting military force.
Abdelatty also briefed Lucas on Cairo's preparations to host the African Union Mid-Year Coordination Meeting in New Alamein on October 4, alongside an African Business Forum.
