Egypt deplores Iranian attack on Kuwaiti power, water desalination plant

CAIRO - 20 July 2026: Egypt strongly condemned the "heinous Iranian attack" that targeted a power generation and water desalination plant in Kuwait, describing it as a direct attack on a vital civilian facility, a flagrant violation of Kuwait's sovereignty, and a dangerous escalation that threatens the security and stability of the Gulf region and further heightens regional tensions.

In a statement issued on Sunday, July 19, 2026, by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptian Expatriates, Egypt affirmed its full solidarity with the sisterly State of Kuwait and support for all measures it takes to preserve its security and stability and protect its vital facilities.

Egypt also renewed its categorical rejection of attacks on civilian facilities and vital infrastructure, stressing that such actions pose a direct threat to civilian security and regional stability.

It called for the immediate cessation of all escalatory actions and for prioritizing diplomatic solutions in a manner that preserves the security and stability of the region and spares its peoples further tension and escalation.
