July 23 official paid holiday for private-sector employees: Minister

CAIRO - 20 July 2026: Minister of Labor Hassan Radad announced that Thursday, July 23, 2026, will be an official paid holiday for all private-sector employees in observance of the July 23 Revolution anniversary.

The minister noted that employers may require employees to work on the holiday if work conditions necessitate it. In such cases, employees are entitled to double their regular daily wage in addition to their normal pay, or to a compensatory day off, provided they submit a written request that is placed in their personnel file, in accordance with the provisions of the Labor Law.

Radad said the decision is issued in implementation of Article 129 of Labor Law No. 14 of 2025, which grants workers covered by the law the right to paid leave on official holidays, festivals, and occasions designated by a decision of the minister responsible for labor affairs.

He added that the decision is also in line with Minister of Labor’s Decision No. 294 of 2025, which specifies the official paid holidays for workers. Article One, Clause 11 of the decision lists the July 23 Revolution anniversary among the official paid holidays.

On July 14, 2026, Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly issued a decision declaring Thursday, July 23, 2026, an official paid holiday for employees in ministries, government departments, public authorities, local administration units, public sector companies, and public business sector companies, on the occasion of the July 23 Revolution anniversary
